Tooth Extraction in Kitchener, Ontario
A tooth may have to be extracted for a number of reasons including:
- If it's severely decayed
- If it's heavily damaged
- If we need to make room to place dentures or implant
- If it’s an impacted wisdom tooth
An impacted wisdom tooth is located at the very back of your mouth and is the last tooth to erupt. It usually appears during your later teen years or early 20's. Wisdom teeth can become impacted when they grow out sideways or remain underneath the gum line due to insufficient space. As a result, the impacted wisdom tooth can grow into other teeth which can cause pain, inflammation, infection, and even cysts to develop.
In order to prevent these problems, the wisdom tooth may have to be removed. However, it’s important to note that not all wisdom teeth need to be removed. If there is enough room in your mouth and if the wisdom tooth isn’t causing any problems, it can be left in place. However, in most instances, this isn’t the case.
At Smaily Dental, we will perform a comprehensive examination using digital x-rays to get a complete in-depth look at your mouth. Depending on your case, we may recommend that the wisdom tooth should be removed to preserve the well being of your mouth. If a tooth does need to be extracted, you will be given anesthesia and sedation to ensure you’re completely comfortable during your surgery. We will consider all of your options before deciding if a tooth needs to be removed.
