Excellent Dentist with best chairside manner!
Dr. Smaily just pulled out my son's wisdom teeth and he couldn't be happier. He says the Dr. did a fantastic job allowing him to sleep through it and even stay long in the chair to sleep off the sedative. If you want to understand your options and have a Dentist who cares and will work with your needs and requests then Dr. Smaily is your man! Thanks Dr. Smaily - we appreciate your great work.

  ANXIETY and SEDATION

Yound girl relaxed in dentist chairMany people avoid seeing the dentist due to overwhelming fear and anxiety. Past negative experiences can greatly impact how they are able to care for their teeth. We understand that these fears and experiences can prevent you from receiving the proper dental care required to maintain the health of your teeth. If our patients suffer from anxiety, we offer two different types of sedation so that you may feel calm and relaxed during your treatment. Dr. Smaily offers Nitrous Oxide and Conscious Sedation depending on the procedure or patients level of anxiety.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide is a gas which is inhaled through a mask. It can provide relaxation and comfort for mild to moderate anxiety. Nitrous Oxide is often referred to as “laughing gas” as patients may experience a state of elation. Dr Smaily often uses Nitrous Oxide on children who experience anxiety during dental visits. Nitrous Oxide has very few side effects and the sedation effects are usually gone by the time the patient is dismissed.

Conscious Sedation

With Conscious Sedation, our patients experience such relaxation that they usually sleep throughout the procedure. The sedation appointment is scheduled an hour prior to your treatment. You are given the medication in the form a drink and then monitored as you become sedated. Dr Smaily begins the treatment when you are completely relaxed or asleep. You will have to arrange for transportation to and from your appointment, as the effects of the sedative will impair your ability to drive.
